Saunders & Ward is a Tasmanian family-owned business with over 100 years’ experience in general engineering. We operate fabrication and machining workshops on a jobbing basis, engaging in the manufacture, repair, refurbishment, installation and maintenance of industrial equipment.

Our modern well-equipped facilities are located in Kingston, just 10 minutes south of Hobart.

We are currently seeking Boilermaker Welders to support our workshop operations. 

The Position

Our workshop operations range from light to heavy fabrication and welding of steel, stainless steel and aluminium components and assemblies. Fabrication is predominantly plate and section based, working from engineering drawings and utilising equipment such as CNC plasma cutting, plate rolls, brake press, bandsaws, MIG, TIG and stick welding processes. Work varies greatly from small one-off items through to major projects and breakdown and repair work. 

Welding requirements range from basic general-purpose applications through to coded welding on quality-critical components and equipment.

Some of your duties will require you to:

• Setup and operate fabricating machines such as plate rolls, bandsaws, flame cutters, and presses.
• Setup and operate a variety of welding equipment such as MIG, TIG and stick.
• Fabricate steel, aluminium and stainless-steel components and assemblies following engineering drawings.
• Carry out refurbishment and repairs to plant & equipment.

Requirements

Successful candidates must have/be:

• Commitment to safe work practices.
• Hold a fabrication trade qualification.
• Experienced with mild steel MIG welding and fabrication.
• Able to complete jobs on time and in accordance with quality standards.
• Able to pass drug and alcohol screening.
